Bulldogs Finish Up at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.: The Yale men's track and field wrapped up competition at the Wake Forest Invitational Friday. This high-quality meet saw many new PRs along with potential regional qualifiers and even new additions to the top 10 lists. As Heps draws near the Bulldogs are finding some solid form.

  • The day kicked off with a win in the triple Jump for Brian Di Bassinga. It was a successful day for Isiah Udofia in the long jump, as he took the win with a time of 7.51 meters. This is a new PR and moves him closer to the school record.
  • In the hammer throw Nolan Recker and Jake Sun were locked in a fierce competition, with Recker edging out Sun to throw 57.11 meters. Likewise, Matt Appel and Chris Ward both had excellent days in the discus with them throwing 54.49 meters and 54.44 meters respectively. Ward also competed in the shot put, finishing third (17.60 meters).
  • In the 1500 meters Brian Gamble took the heat win in a PR of 3:46.25. Backing him up was Calvin Katz in 3:46.95 and Braden King in 3:47.11. This shows the depth the Bulldogs have in this event. In the elite section of the 1500, Owen Karas had a sublime race to win his heat in a time of 3:40.80. This should secure his regionals time and move him well up Yale's top 10 list.
  • Andrew Farr showed solid progress running 48.41 in the 400 meters. Simon Jupp was close by, running 48.48 to place second in his heat.
  • In the 100 meters Kit Colson backed up his solid times, running a new PR of 10.59. Udofia took the win in his heat in a time of 10.74. Jacob Kao ran a good 200 meters, achieving a time of 21.42.
  • In the 800 Thomas Cirrito broke the 1:49 barrier for the first time to run 1:48.84 -- a new PR and a potential regional qualifying time. King returned to run a 1:51 in what was a solid double race day.
  • Leo Brewer was back in action over the 5000 meters and ran hard to come home in a time of 14 minutes.
  • The Bulldogs put down a solid 4x100 meter time of 42.34 to take the win. As Heps comes near the relays will become a crucial event in order to score points.

  • The Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday at home for the Mark Young Invitational. Events will start at 11:00 a.m.
