LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three members of the Yale men's track and field team competed at the NCAA East First Round meet on Wednesday evening, having qualified for the meet by placing in the top 48 in the region in their respective events. The meet is one of two regional meets this week that determine who advances to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., next month.
- Sophomore Owen Karas provided a highlight in the 1500m, using a late kick to finish fifth in his heat and earn an automatic berth in Friday's quarterfinals. Karas' time of 3:43.37 placed him 12th overall, with Florida's Parvej Khan posting the best time of the night (3:41.10).
- Sophomore Isiah Udofia finished 46th in the long jump with a mark of 6.80m on his second jump. A'Nan Bridgett of Rutgers had the best jump of the evening (7.76m).
- Senior Chris Ward finished 33rd in the shot put with a mark of 17.59m on his third and final attempt. Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan of Ole Miss had the best mark of the evening (20.07m).

- Karas will compete in the quarterfinals of the 1500m Friday with a spot in Eugene on the line. Ward will be back on Friday as well, competing in the discus throw alongside senior captain Matt Appel. Sophomore Brian Di Bassinga competes in the triple jump. The Bulldogs must finish in the top 12 of their event to advance to Eugene.
