Bulldogs Wrap Up Day One of Heps

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Yale men's track and field team finished the first day at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships Saturday. The Bulldogs have already put points on the board, with 14 points placing them fifth. They will return Sunday for the final day of competition.

  • The day kicked off in the hammer throw, where Jake Sun secured a new PR of 58.04 meters to place eighth -- just missing out on points. In the discus, Matt Appel and Nolan Recker placed fourth and fifth respectively to add six points to the team total.
  • Isiah Udofia had his best day yet in the long jump. Udofia jumped a huge new PR of 7.66 meters to place second and earn eight points for Yale.
  • The Bulldogs had a strong showing in the 1500 meter heats. In the first heat, Brian Gamble ran a smart race to secure his place in the final. In the second heat, Braden King had a spectacular finish to book his place in the final. Joining him there was teammate Owen Karas. Ronan Luff fought well to secure a new PR of 3:51, just missing out on the final.
  • In the 400 meters the duo of Andrew Farr and Simon Jupp both broke 50 seconds but unfortunately missed out on the final.
  • In the 100 meters Kit Colson continued his run of form, running a time of 10.66. Jacob Kao secured a new PR of 10.70.
  • In heat one of the 800 meters Calvin Katz closed quickly to run a new PR of 1:50.61. Thomas Cirrito just missed out on the final after running 1:50.52.
  • Many athletes doubled back for the 200 meters. Colson equaled his PR of 21.46 while Kao set a season's best time of 21.40 seconds.
  • The final event of the day was the 10,000 meters. Sean Kay came home in 10th against a quality field. Martin Riddell and Stephen Moody put in a brave effort to lead from the start and played a large part in making the race fast. Riddell was rewarded with a new PR of 30:09 for his effort.
