PRINCETON, N.J. -- After an undefeated week on the diamond, two members of the Yale baseball team earned Ivy League weekly honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. First year
Jack Ohman was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second straight time. Senior first baseman
Alec Atkinson earned conference Player of the Week laurels after a stellar week at the plate and in the field.
Yale won its home opener on Tuesday over Siena College and then completed the perfect week with a road sweep of Rice University in Houston, Texas. The Bulldogs improved to 7-3 overall.
Ohman earned conference Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after starting the series finale against Rice on Sunday. The Arizona native tossed seven strong innings without allowing an earned run. Ohman picked up his first collegiate win, striking out seven and only walking one batter. The first year has not allowed an earned run this year in 14.1 innings pitched. He is striking out more than a batter per inning and is sporting a superb WHIP of 0.77.
Atkinson was named Ivy League Player of the Week following a fantastic four-game stretch. The Bulldogs' cleanup hitter hit for an average of .454 with a home run and two doubles. He scored four runs and drove in three while recording a ridiculous on-base percentage of .647. Atkinson is batting .382 this season with a gaudy OPS of 1.059.
The Bulldogs will host Sacred Heart on Wedneday, March 12 at 3 p.m.
