NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The women's and coed sailing teams had an impressive first weekend back on the water to start their team racing-focused spring season.
The women's team competed at Harvard on Saturday and Sunday and came out undefeated. Skippers Dorothy Mendelblatt, Carmen Cowles, Emma Cowles, and crews Ximena Escobar, Sarah Moeder, Carmen Berg, and Jessi Ávila-Shah secured the win for the team. The wind came out of the south on Saturday, ranging from 9 to 20 knots, and picked up on Sunday from the west and ranged from 14 to 20 knots. The team finished with a 1-2 finish combination in all nine of the races.
The coed team headed to Brown to compete in the Liam O'Keefe Team Race Trophy. After completing one round robin, they finished with a 6/1 record, landing them in second place behind Harvard, who had an undefeated record. The wind came out of the south-southwest and ranged from 5-10 knots for the majority of the day, before picking up during the last few races. Skippers Stephan Baker, Jack Egan, Morgan Pinckney, and crews Ashley Highland, Elle Sykes, and Annabel Woodworth competed for the Bulldogs. Sunday racing was canceled due to cold and windy weather.
Another coed team raced at Connecticut College in the Thames River Team Race on Saturday. The Bulldogs finished with a 3/4 record, placing them in 6th. The wind came out of the south-southeast at the start of the day, ranging from 3-6 knots before clocking southwest and west-southwest and picking up to 6-11 knots. Skippers Alex Adams, Audrey Foley, and Mathias Reimer sailed with crews Mary Madaus, Clara Díaz Suárez, and Julia Miller.
Next weekend the Bulldogs are team racing at the Naval Academy, St. Mary's College, and Georgetown before their spring break training at St. Mary's College.
