PRINCETON, N.J. -- As a result of their dominant run on the mound, senior
Colton Shaw and first year
Jack Ohman received weekly honors from the Ivy League, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. The impressive one-two combo at the top of the Bulldogs' rotation helped the team earn its first berth in the Ivy League Tournament. Shaw was named Pitcher of the Week, while Ohman was tabbed as Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season.
Shaw earned his first conference weekly honor after a fantastic start on the mound in the first game of the series against Princeton on Sunday. The senior captain tossed 7.1 scoreless innings while only allowing four hits. He struck out a season-high 11 batters and issued just one walk. Shaw, a two-time All-Ivy selection, is hitting his stride towards the end of the regular season. The Texas native has been excellent over his past three starts, pitching to a 1.12 ERA in 24.1 innings. He has struck out 24 hitters over that time span. Shaw is currently ranked in the top-five in the Ivy League in ERA, wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and opposing batting average.
Ohman continued his magical debut season for the Bulldogs, receiving his fifth Rookie of the Week honor and seventh weekly accolade overall. In game two of the Princeton series, Ohman pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just two runs and two hits to earn his Ivy League-leading seventh victory of the season. The first year struck out nine batters and walked two. Ohman sits atop the conference leader board in wins, ERA, strikeouts, and opposing batting average. He leads the NCAA with a microscopic 0.89 ERA and is second in WHIP (0.82).
The Bulldogs are currently in first place in the conference standings with three Ivy League games remaining. Yale will host Iona on Wednesday, May 7 before wrapping up the regular season with a three-game set at Dartmouth beginning on May 10.
