NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale women's and coed sailing teams continued its winning ways, emerging victorious in a pair of regattas over the weekend. The women's team won its home event, while the coed squad triumphed at the NEISA Open Championships.
The women's team continued its undefeated Spring season after clinching the Yale Women's Team Race trophy. It was choppy and breezy at Yale on Saturday, with consistent wind out of the East ranging from 9-15 knots and gusts in the 20s. Sunday was lighter, and the wind came from the West. After sailing one round-robin, the team competed in the final four, landing them with a 9/1 record. Skippers Dorothy Mendelblatt, Carmen Cowles, and Emma Cowles sailed with crews Ximena Escobar, Julia Miller, Carmen Berg, and Jessi Avila-Shah.
At Harvard, the coed team won the Fowle Trophy after sailing 23 races, finishing with a 20/3 record. The team sailed one round robin, and then sailed against the other teams in the top-eight and then again against those in the top-six. On Saturday, the wind came from the East-southeast and Southeast, ranging from 4-13 knots. On Sunday, it was lighter out of the Northwest. Skippers Jack Egan, Stephan Baker, and Mia Nicolosi sailed with crews Elle Sykes, Ashley Highland, and Sarah Moeder.
At Connecticut college, a women's team fleet raced in the Emily Wick trophy. Saturday was a shifty day on the river, with the breeze coming out of the East-southeast, ranging from 4-10 knots. Sunday was much lighter, so much so that only one race could be sailed. Skippers Audrey Foley and Clara Díaz Suárez sailed with crews Annabel Woodworth, Ariana Borut and Puiyee Kong. The team placed in 9th after sailing in nine races.
Both teams will be back in action next weekend at a trio of regattas.
