Lightweights to Race at EARC Sprints Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Y150 is rolling into championship season this Sunday at the EARC Sprints Championship on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Bulldogs will take a fleet of three eight-man crews to compete for three separate Cups and vie for a spot at the IRA National Championship Regatta, which will take place in June.
  • The EARC Men's Lightweight Sprints League includes seven Ivy League schools with Georgetown and the United States Naval Academy. The 1V, 2V and 3V crews of each school will compete in preliminary heats on Sunday morning. The top three crews from each morning heat will move on to the afternoon grand finals, with the rest competing in the petite finals.
  • The first varsity crews will compete for the Wright Cup, named in honor of Joseph "Joe" Wright, rowing coach at Penn and a seminal figure in American lightweight rowing. The Cup is currently held by Harvard. Yale last won the Wright Cup in 2022. The Yale 1V begins its day with a 10:00 a.m. heat against Penn, Cornell, MIT and Columbia.
  • The Cornell Trophy is given to the winning JV crew and is currently held by Penn. The Yale JV will race in a 10:50 a.m. heat against Penn, Dartmouth, Cornell and MIT.
  • The Kilpatrick Cup is given to the winning 3V crew. Named after longtime Princeton lightweight coach Gary Kilpatrick, the cup currently belongs to Cornell as the defending champion. The Yale 3V will compete in a 9:00 a.m. heat against Princeton, Cornell and Georgetown.
The 1V, 2V, and 3V races will count towards the Jope Cup for team points. Yale last won that trophy in 2022.

This will be the last showing of the Y150 in full force for the 2025 season as the team will split into a smaller IRA squad that will compete in June.
