NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale baseball team will kick off its 2026 campaign at the Andre Dawson Classic in Vero Beach, Florida, from Feb. 20-22. The Bulldogs will play two games against Bethune-Cookman University and one contest against Jackson State University. The Andre Dawson Classic is the annual, round-robin collegiate baseball tournament designed by Major League Baseball to highlight Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their baseball programs.
A Look Back
In 2025, Yale earned a share of the Ivy League regular season title, the team's first since 2018. The Bulldogs finished with a 31-14 record, winning 30-plus games for the third time in program history. The Elis earned qualification and hosting rights to the Ivy League Tournament for the first time. Fay Vincent '31 Head Coach of Baseball Brian Hamm returns for his fourth season as the skipper of the Bulldogs. Hamm leads a coaching staff of Chris Wojick, Corey Keane, Trevor Wren, Pat O'Neil and Joe Epinosa, a group that earned Ivy League Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2025.
Key Returnees
Staff ace Jack Ohman returns for his sophomore season after a remarkable run as a first year. The Arizona native was honored as the top pitcher in the Ivy League in 2025 and proved himself as one of the best hurlers in the nation. Ohman ranked first in the NCAA with a minuscule 1.34 ERA. He tossed 73.2 innings, recording an 8-1 record and helping lead the Bulldogs to a share of the Ivy League regular season championship. Ohman ranked in the top three in the conference in ERA, wins, innings pitched, opponent batting average (.162) and strikeouts (78). The sophomore has been selected as a Preseason All-American this year.
Daniel Cohen will compete in his senior year, now in his third season as a weekend starter. The right-hander was an Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection last season after finishing with four wins and a 4.23 ERA. Closer Tate Evans also earned All-Ivy laurels and led the conference in games pitched and saves. He will be a reliable back-end option for the Bulldogs.
Yale graduated three all-conference position players in Alec Atkinson, Jake Williams and Tommy Martin. But the team will return a strong nucleus, including Ivy League Rookie of the Year Jack Dauer, who hit .306 with five home runs in 2025. Junior Kaiden Dossa has been an integral piece of the Bulldogs' offense for the past two seasons. The center fielder is an on-base machine from the leadoff spot, earning All-Ivy accolades after leading the team with a .329 batting average. He ranked second in the conference in runs and fourth in hits. Dossa also had an incredible 38-game on-base streak. Fellow outfielder Garrett Larsen also hit over .300 last season and led the team in stolen bases. Infielder Davis Hanson returns for his senior year after missing all of 2025 with an injury. Hanson will bring some power to the middle of the order. The senior led the team in slugging percentage, home runs and doubles in 2024 and was an All-Ivy honoree.
New Faces
The Bulldogs welcome a strong six-member first-year class: pitcher Matt Pearch, catcher Bryce Miller, infielder Jackson Hays, pitcher Nick West, pitcher Brett Faccio and outfielder Matt Hutchinson. Several of those players are expected to make an immediate impact for the Elis.
The Captain
Hanson will serve as the team captain for the 2026 season.
Looking Ahead
Following this weekend's series, the Bulldogs will travel to Malibu, California, for a three-game series at Pepperdine from Feb. 27 to March 1. Yale will host Manhattan on March 4 in the team's home opener and will open Ivy League play on March 21 against Brown at George H.W. Bush '48 Field.
