NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale men's track and field team looks ready to rumble at the UConn Dog Fight in Storrs, Conn., this Saturday. Fresh off a promising opening weekend of outdoor competition at the
Raleigh Relays, the Bulldogs aim to live up to their name as they do battle against a host of local rivals.
In Raleigh, many of the sprinters competed only in the relay events. They'll be confident as they turn to the individual events this week, buoyed by the impressive teamwork and speed that was on display last week. Look out for sophomore
Jacob Kao in the 100m, as he looks to continue the momentum from a phenomenal indoor campaign in which he moved up to second on Yale's all time 200m list. Sophomores
Kit Colson and
James Grindle and first year
Mason Evans all also seem poised for fast times after looking sharp in Raleigh last week. Expect Grindle and Kao to compete over the 200m too, alongside senior
Jeamy Williams, who opened up in 22.82 last week. Over the 400m, first year
Andrew Farr and sophomores
Simon Jupp and
Aaron Miller will all no doubt be looking to challenge the 48 second barrier.
After the Bulldogs' middle distance group put on an 800m clinic in Raleigh, those competing this weekend will be looking for more of the same. Additionally, in order to test their endurance, many of them will be doubling up over both the 800m and the 1500m. First year
Owen Karas looks ready for a Yale track debut to remember, while fellow first year
Tanish Chettiar will be looking to build upon a strong indoor season. Alongside them will be junior
Aaron Cullen, who, after winning his heat of the 800m at last year's Dog Fight meet, will be keen to continue his 100% record on the UConn track.
Unusually for a collegiate outdoor track meet, there will also be a 3000m event this weekend. Junior
Martin Riddell has become something of a 3000m specialist after competing seven times over the distance in the past 14 months, more than anyone else on the team, and he'll be looking to convert that experience into a strong result on Saturday alongside first year
Kenan Pala.
In the field events, expect first year
Brian Di Bassinga to continue to excel in the triple jump. Likely joining him in the long jump will be sophomore
Cristian Pereira and first year
Isaiah Udofia. Finally, the versatile throws squad of
Matt Appel,
Nolan Recker,
Jake Sun and
Chris Ward will look to show their strength again over the discus throw, the shot put and the hammer throw after recording a host of PRs in those events last weekend.
