Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn was a member of the legendary 1956 EL crew that won gold at the Olympic Games. Esselstyn is associated with the Cleveland clinic for more than 40 years serving as the president of medical staff and as a member of the board of governors in 1991 and sultan served as president of the American Association of endocrine surgeons that same year he organize the first national conference on the elimination of coronary artery disease which was held in Tuscan Arizona in 1997 he shared a follow up conference the summit of on cholesterol and co-owner disease which brought together more than 500 physicians and healthcare workers. 

In 1995 Esselstyn published his most compelling work a benchmark long-term nutritional research arresting and reversing contrary artery disease in severely ill patients the same study was updated at 12 years and reviewed be on 20 years in his book prevent and reverse heart disease making it one of the longest longitudinal studies of his type his contributions to the field of cardiovascular disease has been pioneering compliant patient continue to thrive be on 20 years.  

In 1968 Esselstyn was awarded the bronze star as a combat surgeon in Vietnam he also was recently named as the recipient of the heritage award from Deerfield Academy in April 2005 Dr. Esselstyn became the first recipient of the Benjamin Spock award for compassion and medicine and he received a distinguished alumni‘s award from the Cleveland clinical alumni Association in 2009.
