George H.W. Bush Lifetime of Leadership Award
While a football student-athlete at Yale, Victor Staffieri distinguished himself both on and off the field. He served as captain of the Yale freshman football team and later led the historic 100th Anniversary varsity squad as captain in 1976. Under legendary head coach Carm Cozza, Staffieri played a pivotal role in Yale's Ivy League championship season in 1974, followed by a strong 7-2 campaign in 1975, and then captained the 8-1 Ivy title-winning team in 1976. In 1981, he was named to the Ivy League Silver Anniversary All-Star Team, solidifying his legacy as one of Yale's most impactful football leaders.

He began his career in 1980 as an attorney with Long Island Lighting Company in Hicksville, N.Y., where he rose through several senior legal and management roles, ultimately serving as general counsel and corporate secretary. In 1992, he joined LG&E Energy as senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. He went on to hold a variety of executive roles, including senior vice president of public policy, Chief Financial Officer, President, and Chief Operating Officer before becoming Chief Executive Officer.

Staffieri retired as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LGE Energy Corp, the parent company of Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities, now subsidiaries of PPL Corporation. Together, they generate approximately 8,300 megawatts of electricity and serve 1.3 million electric and natural gas customers across Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee. A respected leader in the utility industry, Staffieri held the role for 18 years. He also served on the Executive Committee of E. ON AG in Düsseldorf, Germany and on the board of Powergen PLC in London, United Kingdom.

A 1977 graduate of Yale, Staffieri also holds a Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law. His industry leadership includes past service on the boards of the Electric Power Research Institute and the Edison Electric Institute, among others. Deeply engaged in civic and economic development efforts, he has served as chairman of the Louisville Area Chamber of Commerce, chaired the Metro United Way's Community Campaign, and led a statewide business task force on postsecondary education in collaboration with the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
