Patrick A. Ruwe, '83, '87 M.D., was a three year starter on the varsity football team under the legendary coach Carm Cozza and wrestled heavyweight. He was elected by his teammates the 106th Yale Football Captain in 1982 and was selected an Academic All-American. 

Dr. Ruwe graduated cum laude from the Yale School of Medicine and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in Orthopeadic Surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital winning multiple awards for his research. Dr. Ruwe completed a fellowship at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles where he was involved in the care of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kings, Rams, Angels, and Dodgers. 

From 1993 to 1999 Dr. Ruwe was an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine and an Associate at the Yale Sports Medicine Center. While at Yale, Dr. Ruwe was the Co-Director of the Yale Shoulder Center and an Orthopaedic Team Physician for the Yale athletic programs. 

He joined Connecticut Orthopeadic Specialists (COS) in July, 1999. Dr. Ruwe served as the Head team orthopeadic physican for Yale University from 2001 through 2014 and the lead orthopaedic consultant at Yale Health. As President of COS and medical director of the COS Surgical Center, Dr. Ruwe has lead the group to become one of the largest private orthopedic group in New England and a major player in the health care delivery system in Connecticut. He currently serves as the President of the National Orthopaedic Educational Society. 

Dr. Ruwe has served as the President of the Yale Football Association for the past twenty years, under his leadership, the assocation has grown membership, increased annual giving tenfold, and developed a robust cagtalogue of events and programs. He also serves on the executive board of the Yale Sports Federation. 

Dr. Ruwe lives with his wife Stacy in Branford, CT with thier three children Patrick Y'11, Brian Y'13, and Katelyn Y'17.
